English Victorian Sterling SILVER BUTTERFLY WING Kingfisher BROOCH. Measures 1" long x 3/4" wide c. 1878-79.

Wonderful reverse painted Kingfisher brooch on genuine Blue Morpho Butterfly wings. A very colorful bird sitting on a branch with some plant life behind him. He is painted inside bubbled convex or bubble crystal and mounted onto the Morpho wings, so that the natural blue iridescence shines through the glass, and up through the painting. The piece really glows in the right light. Frame is (tested) sterling silver, the brooch dates anywhere between 1878-1879. On the back is the pat no. 202213, and the word SILVER. The brooch tests as sterling silver.

In very good condition . It retains what appears to be, its original tube-hinge, c-clasp and extended pin stem.ID=silverbutterflywingbrooch
